GOP Rep. Brandon Gill Criticizes Democrats Over Response to Alleged Immigrant Crimes

Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, has sharply criticized Democratic leaders, asserting they are indifferent to crimes committed by undocumented immigrants, viewing American victims as mere "collateral damage" in their pursuit of a larger electoral base.

Gill's remarks came in response to the arrest of Abdoulaye Dia, an illegal immigrant from Guinea and rideshare driver, who is accused of kidnapping and raping a minor in Maryland. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Dia was admitted into the U.S. in 2023 and had previously faced a sexual assault charge involving a minor in New York City earlier this year. Authorities believe Dia may have more victims.

This case, Gill argued, has been overshadowed by the Democratic Party's reaction to a separate incident in Austin, Texas, where an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot an undocumented Venezuelan migrant, Wilber Rafael Garces Perez. Perez, who had a final order of removal, was in stable condition and in federal custody pending deportation. The Austin shooting prompted condemnation from Democrats, including Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, who called for an investigation and an end to ICE's presence in the city.

Gill contended that Democrats "will read this and feel absolutely nothing" regarding the Maryland case, claiming they "simply don't care how many Americans are r@ped and killed by illegal aliens." He further accused Democrats of using "amnesty to build a permanent electoral majority."

Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat, addressed the Maryland case, stating his administration has "no tolerance for violent offenders." However, he also criticized what he termed "Trump/Vance ICE operations that continue to violate the basic laws of our state." Moore emphasized Maryland's commitment to community safety and investments in local law enforcement, noting a significant drop in violent crime within the state. He also questioned ICE's substantial budget, suggesting it had grown disproportionately large.

New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino echoed Gill's sentiments, criticizing the policies that allowed Dia into the country and allegedly led to his release despite prior charges. She asserted that Democrats ignore such incidents, prioritizing open borders and decarceration policies.

Dia reportedly entered the U.S. via Lukeville, Arizona, on December 21, 2023. He was initially arrested in New York City on charges including sexual abuse and forcible touching. The alleged rape in Maryland occurred while he was working as a rideshare driver.
