GOP Pollster Warns Trump's Midterm Strategy Is a 'Very Dangerous Gamble'

Longtime Republican pollster Frank Luntz has voiced concerns about Donald Trump's strategy for mobilizing Republican voters in the upcoming midterm elections, describing it as a "very dangerous gamble." Trump has been urging his supporters to treat the November elections as if he were personally on the ballot, a tactic aimed at boosting turnout among his base.

Appearing on CNN This Morning, Luntz noted that the party out of power typically holds a historical advantage in midterm elections. However, he explained that Trump's strategy is an attempt to overcome an "energy challenge" for GOP voters. "When he [Trump] is on the ballot, his people come out, they participate," Luntz said, recalling the higher turnout during Trump's presidential election years and contrasting it with lower participation in the 2018 midterms and even the 2022 elections when Joe Biden was president.

Luntz cautioned that Trump's current support may not be as robust as in previous cycles, citing what he described as "disastrous polling numbers." He stated that the political landscape has shifted since Trump's last presidential victory, with voters currently expressing frustration over the affordability crisis, the war in Iran, and what he characterized as "the style and the ugliness" of current political discourse.

Despite these challenges, Luntz acknowledged that if Trump successfully energizes his supporters, "we can have an upset." He added that many voters are eager to cast their ballots and send a message to the current administration and Washington D.C. A video of Luntz's remarks was included.
