GOP Gubernatorial Nominee Blakeman Accuses Hochul of Taking 'Orders' From NYC Mayor
Bruce Blakeman, Republican candidate for New York governor, criticized Governor Kathy Hochul's policies and alignment with what he described as the Democratic Party's "anti-American movement."
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Republican nominee for New York governor, has sharply criticized Governor Kathy Hochul, accusing her of being a "useful tool" for the Democratic Party's agenda and of "taking orders" from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. In an exclusive interview with The Post, Blakeman contended that Hochul's record reflects an "extreme, polarizing" leadership style.
Blakeman asserted that Hochul's focus on former President Donald Trump during debates is a strategy to deflect from her own policy failures, including high taxes and rising utility costs. He contrasted this with his own record in Nassau County, which he described as having tax cuts, budget surpluses, and being recognized as the safest county in America.
Regarding utility costs, Blakeman proposed cutting New York's utility bills in half by eliminating what he called the "green energy scam" and increasing the supply of energy, including natural gas. He pointed to Pennsylvania as an example of lower costs due to less reliance on green energy mandates.
Blakeman also addressed his plans to implement policies such as a ban on transgender students in girls' school bathrooms and locker rooms, abolishing congestion pricing, and repealing cashless bail laws. He acknowledged these would require legislative support but expressed confidence in his ability to influence the state Legislature through the budget process and by potentially electing more Republican members.
On the issue of public safety in New York City, Blakeman stated he would compel Mayor Mamdani to fill police vacancies and enforce laws uniformly, rather than selectively. He also suggested he could use the governor's budget control and emergency powers to ensure city compliance if necessary.
Blakeman discussed his use of technology like Flock cameras in Nassau County for crime prevention and solving crimes, indicating a potential willingness to adopt similar measures statewide if effective.
Financing for his campaign was also addressed, with Blakeman noting support from PACs, including one funded by James Dolan's companies. He stated he has no control over these funds due to legal restrictions on coordination but expressed gratitude for the support.
Blakeman touched on his proposal to potentially relocate the New York Jets from New Jersey back to Long Island, though he noted the team's ownership has so far indicated they are comfortable with their current location.
He characterized the current Democratic Party as one led by individuals who "hate America," contrasting them with past Democratic leaders he respected. Blakeman believes New Yorkers are seeking a governor who prioritizes their needs, leading to broad-based support for his candidacy and a narrowing gap in recent polls.
