New York Congressman Mike Lawler's latest campaign advertisement has captured attention online, but the focus has shifted from his political message to the fit of his clothing.

Viewers and commentators have noted the noticeably tight attire worn by Lawler in the 30-second ad, which aims to highlight his efforts to restore the federal State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction. The ad features Lawler in a stance described as "almost infomercial-like" as he discusses the tax issue, with footage also showing President Donald Trump at a rally.

Amanda Litman, president of the Democratic PAC Run for Something, commented on social media, "Whoever produced this or let him film it in those clothes absolutely hates this man." Max Fisher, host of The Bigger Picture, echoed this sentiment, questioning "Why are his clothes so tight? Why is every piece of clothing on Mike Lawler multiple sizes too small."

Lawler, a Republican seeking to retain his seat, has made the SALT deduction a central issue, particularly for constituents in high-tax states like New York. The ad also includes remarks from former President Trump, who playfully referred to Lawler as "Mr. Salt" for his persistent advocacy on the issue.

Beyond the campaign ad, Lawler recently appeared on Fox Business to discuss economic concerns in New York. He criticized the state's high tax burden and the policies of Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul, arguing they are detrimental to businesses. Lawler specifically addressed Hochul's pause on new hyperscale data centers, stating it sends a negative signal to potential investors. "His appearance won praise from Trump, who later took to Truth Social to endorse the congressman," the report noted.

Lawler's race against Democratic opponent Cait Conley is anticipated to be a closely contested House district election in November.
