GOP Candidates Criticize Hochul's Immigration Policies at Rally
Republican leaders convened to condemn New York's sanctuary policies and accuse Governor Kathy Hochul of enabling crime through her administration's approach to immigration.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman and other state GOP leaders convened Sunday at a rally in Yorktown Heights, New York, to criticize Governor Kathy Hochul's immigration policies and their perceived impact on crime. Blakeman accused Hochul of being a "puppet" of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom Blakeman characterized as "un-American, antisemite, anti-Christian."
Blakeman argued that Hochul's administration has prioritized resources for undocumented immigrants over veterans and that the state's sanctuary policies fail to hold criminals accountable. "There is no consequence for committing crimes in New York State," Blakeman stated. "We got to get back to American values."
U.S. Representative Mike Lawler, who also spoke at the rally, echoed these sentiments, asserting that Hochul "spends more on criminal illegal migrants than she does on our veterans." He urged attendees to support Blakeman in his bid to unseat Hochul.
The rally highlighted the case of Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University freshman from New York who was allegedly killed in Chicago by an undocumented immigrant. Her parents, Jessica and Thomas Gorman, attended the event and voiced their support for the Republican candidates.
Other Republican candidates present included Saritha Komatireddy, running for state Attorney General, and U.S. Representative Nicole Malliotakis, among others. The event featured campaign merchandise for the Republican candidates.
