GOP Candidate Skips Georgia Gubernatorial Debate, Leaving Empty Podium
Rick Jackson's absence allowed Democratic opponent Keisha Lance Bottoms to debate an empty seat.
Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson did not attend a scheduled debate, leaving an empty podium on stage next to his Democratic opponent, Keisha Lance Bottoms.
The debate, held Tuesday, featured Bottoms, a former advisor to President Joe Biden, facing an unoccupied seat intended for Jackson. The absence marked a notable moment in the state's gubernatorial race.
Jackson's campaign has not provided a public reason for his decision not to participate in the debate. The event proceeded with Bottoms addressing questions and engaging with the moderators, albeit without her Republican counterpart present.
This development adds another layer to the ongoing campaign for Georgia's governorship, with the candidates' strategies and participation in public forums now under increased scrutiny.
