Global Commemorations Mark Third Anniversary of Oct. 7 Hamas Attacks
Israel and nations worldwide held solemn ceremonies to remember victims of the Hamas terror attacks, which occurred three years prior.
Israel and countries across the globe observed solemn memorials on Wednesday, marking the third anniversary of the Hamas terror attacks that occurred on October 7.
In Israel, cities flew flags at half-staff as advocacy groups organized remembrance ceremonies. In Tel Aviv, anti-government protesters briefly halted traffic on the Ayalon Highway for a moment of silence. The observance began at 6:29 a.m., the exact time the invasion commenced, according to the Times of Israel.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists abducted 1,200 people and took 251 hostages to Gaza. This date marked the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust and the beginning of the Israel-Hamas War.
In Kibbutz Kfar Aza, where many residents were killed or kidnapped during the attacks, a vigil was held for the deceased. Zion Regev, a community leader, described the day as "very emotional" and "very difficult."
At the Nahal Oz military outpost, families honored the 16 female surveillance soldiers who were killed. Dror Ashram, whose daughter Sgt. Shay Ashram was among those killed, stated, "We will not forget and we will not forgive."
Former prime minister Naftali Bennett and others paid tribute at the site of the Nova music festival, where hundreds of attendees were killed or abducted. Bennett spoke of the ongoing pain and the commitment to not forget the victims.
International observances included an official memorial event hosted by the Israeli Embassy at the Washington Hebrew Congregation in Washington, D.C. Community centers and synagogues in New York City also held vigils.
In London, Jewish community members and supporters gathered for a vigil outside Downing Street, alongside protests. Members of the European Parliament honored victims and survivors of the Oct. 7 attacks in France.
