Glenn Returns to Detroit with Jets Mission in Familiar Showdown

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn returns to Detroit to face the Lions and his former colleague, Dan Campbell, in a Week 3 matchup that holds significance for both 1-1 teams. Campbell, now leading the Lions, hired Glenn as his defensive coordinator in 2021. Glenn held that position until he was appointed head coach of the Jets in 2025. This history means both teams are well aware of each other's strategies.

"Our players know exactly what’s coming in here because the defensive coordinator was here for [four] years," Campbell said, referencing Glenn's tenure. "And, look what just happened last Thursday night [against Buffalo]. So, this is not going to be a trap game. This is going to be a knockout, 60-minute brawl."

Glenn, while downplaying the personal significance of the return, acknowledged his time in Detroit and his collaboration with Campbell. "We just sat in my office and we talked football and how we were going to change this program around," Glenn recalled. "And those things will always stick with me, because the things that we talked about, we actually did, and Detroit actually ended up being exactly where they are now."

Both teams are coming off losses. The Jets experienced a fourth-quarter collapse against the Green Bay Packers, losing 20-17 in overtime after holding a 17-7 lead. The Lions suffered a significant defeat against the Buffalo Bills. Detroit's defense, ranked 31st in total defense, struggled against the Bills' offense.
