Glenn Close, 79, made an appearance at the European premiere of "The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping" in London, utilizing a cane as she navigated the red carpet. The actress revealed that she recently underwent a complete hip replacement due to her "left hip being in really bad shape."
Close, who stars as Drusilla Sickle in the upcoming prequel, arrived at the screening at Westfield London on Wednesday evening. She was seen wearing a draped green satin dress from Simone Rocha's 2026 autumn/winter collection, paired with black leather gloves and her hair styled in an updo.
Earlier this month, Close had sparked concern when she was pictured using a cane at a screening of "La Bola Negra" at New York City's SVA Theater. She later explained the use of the walking aid via an Instagram video, stating, "I have a cane because I have had a complete hip replacement."
Close indicated that the cane is a temporary measure as she prepares for a busy upcoming schedule, which includes the London premiere for "The Hunger Games" and a New York City premiere for the second season of "All's Fair." "My whole thing right right now is to keep myself in running order," she said, "so that I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way... so I'm hobbling around on a cane for now."
She expressed her hope to be "fully present" for her upcoming appearances, aiming to be her "old self" despite not being able to "run around going up mountains." She concluded her message by assuring her fans that she is "feeling great" and has her family around her.
In "The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping," which is set to release on November 20, Close portrays the character of Drusilla Sickle. She also recently directed "La Bola Negra," a film for which directors Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo received the Best Director award at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The eight-time Academy Award-nominee is also scheduled to receive an honorary Oscar on November 15 in Hollywood.
Close's other upcoming engagements include attending a New York City premiere for the second season of "All's Fair." She had previously shared a relaxed video on Instagram in August from her home in Montana, where she has lived since 2019, showing her enjoying the sunset and expressing gratitude.
