Glenn Close Undergoes Hip Replacement Surgery, Remains Optimistic About Busy Schedule
The 79-year-old actress shared an update on her health following recent appearances with a cane.
Actress Glenn Close, 79, revealed Tuesday that she recently underwent a complete hip replacement. The update comes after she was seen using a cane on the red carpet last week, sparking concern among fans and media.
Close took to Instagram to explain her current mobility aid, stating that doctors informed her her left hip was in "really bad shape." She shared a video clip thanking her supporters for their well wishes and assuring them that she is "feeling great."
"I wanted to just hop on and thank you for all of your love, and to explain why I have a cane - I have a cane because I have had a complete hip replacement," Close said in the video.
The Hollywood icon emphasized that the cane is a temporary measure to help her navigate her upcoming commitments. These include a premiere for "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" in London and a New York City premiere for the second season of "All's Fair."
"My whole thing right now is to keep myself in running order," Close stated, expressing her desire to "leap into whatever challenges come my way." She added that while she might not be "running around going up mountains," she aims to be her "old self" for these events.
Close also mentioned using a "frownie," a facial patch designed to smooth wrinkles, humorously noting, "Frownies help." She concluded her message with affection for her family and excitement for future endeavors.
The eight-time Academy Award nominee is scheduled to receive an honorary Oscar on November 15 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom Ovation in Hollywood. She was pictured in New York City on Friday amidst her promotional activities for various projects.
In addition to her upcoming appearances, Close was active on social media in August, sharing a tranquil moment from her home in Montana, where she has lived since 2019. In a video posted that month, she expressed feeling "blessed" while watching the sunset.
