Actor Glen Powell has detailed an extensive night out in Nashville with several prominent country music figures, including HARDY and the duo Dan + Shay, which concluded with a beer pong match at Jelly Roll's establishment. The experience was part of Powell's immersive research for his role as a disgraced country music star in the upcoming Judd Apatow-directed comedy, "The Comeback King."

Powell, who also co-wrote the script, explained on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," guest-hosted by Jelly Roll, that he aimed to authentically capture the essence of Music City for the film. "We wanted to make it with country music," Powell stated, emphasizing his goal of collaboration rather than simply making a film about the genre.

His research included a songwriting session with country artist HARDY, which transitioned into a night exploring Nashville's Lower Broadway entertainment district. What began as a single bar visit reportedly evolved into a twelve-stop tour, eventually leading Powell and his companions to Jelly Roll's bar, Goodnight, in the early morning hours. It was there, around 3 a.m., that they engaged in a game of beer pong.

Powell admitted that while he considers himself a capable beer pong player, he was defeated by HARDY. Jelly Roll, referencing his past incarceration, humorously noted that he missed the "entire beer pong era" of his youth. Powell also mentioned that Jelly Roll, along with other artists such as Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, and Riley Green, will make cameo appearances in "The Comeback King."

In addition to his experiences in Nashville, Powell discussed his musical contributions to the film, noting that he performed all his own songs on screen. He credited his voice coach, Eric Vitro, his mother, and his sister Leslie, who also contributed original music to the project, for his vocal preparation. Powell described performing live on set in front of his country music peers as one of the most terrifying experiences of his life, though Jelly Roll praised his performance.

"The Comeback King" is slated for a February 5, 2027, theatrical release.
