‘Glee’ Reboot News Gives Actress Becca Tobin ‘Diarrhea’ Amid Uncertainty
The 'Glee' alum expressed anxiety over potentially not being asked to return for the show's revival.
Becca Tobin, known for her role as Kitty Wilde on the Fox series "Glee," has voiced her apprehension about the recently announced reboot of the show, admitting the news gives her "diarrhea" due to the uncertainty of her potential involvement.
Tobin, who joined "Glee" in its third season, shared her feelings on her "LadyGang" podcast, explaining that as she was not an original cast member, there is "no guarantee" she will be invited back. "It's a situation where I'm not an original cast member," Tobin stated on the podcast. "I came in three seasons in."
She described the feeling as "weird," saying, "You just sit and you wait and you're like, 'Okay, is he [creator Ryan Murphy] going to decide to invite, ask, whatever?'"
The actress also revealed she experiences anxiety over the possibility that she will be constantly asked about the reboot, especially if she is not part of it. "The high schooler in me is like, 'Oh my God, nobody invited me to the party,'" Tobin remarked.
Tobin acknowledged the significant challenge of bringing back all original cast members alongside new additions. "I don’t know what the plan is," she said, noting that it's no secret Murphy has been in contact with some original cast members. "I don’t know if he confirmed it [or] somebody else, but that he’s talked to like the original cast members."
She expressed empathy for her former co-stars who dedicated themselves to the show, only to face potential career uncertainty afterward. "I'm thrilled for my friends. I am so happy," Tobin said. "Then I’m also really anxious and bummed out to be in this position. I don’t know if that makes any sense."
Tobin stated she has "not received a call" regarding the reboot and feels her character, Kitty Wilde, might not be a priority for the new series. "Nobody’s sitting around being like, we’ve got to figure out a way to get Kitty Wilde back into this show," she commented.
Disney+ and Hulu officially confirmed the "Glee" reboot on Wednesday. Creator Ryan Murphy had previously announced he finished writing the script last month. Sources have indicated that Lea Michele is expected to return as Rachel Berry, with Heather Morris, Chord Overstreet, and Jenna Ushkowitz also teasing their potential involvement.
Meanwhile, sources reported that Matthew Morrison, who portrayed Will Schuester, is not currently in talks for the reboot but remains hopeful for an invitation. The original "Glee" series, co-created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, aired for six seasons from 2009 to 2015 and garnered multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Tragically, three main stars—Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Naya Rivera—have passed away since the show's premiere.
