Gisele Bündchen Was Reportedly 'Done' With Marriage After Tom Brady's Attempt to Save It Failed

Gisele Bündchen had decided to end her marriage to Tom Brady after his last attempt to reconcile their relationship failed in August 2022, according to Lars Anderson's book "Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness."

Anderson writes that Bündchen's decision was solidified after Brady traveled to a private resort in the Bahamas for a conversation with her. This trip coincided with an 11-day absence from Buccaneers training camp, which the team had excused.

The couple's marriage had reportedly been strained since Brady's decision to continue playing football after winning his sixth Super Bowl in 2018. Tensions escalated in March 2022 when he reversed a 40-day retirement to play another season.

An eyewitness close to Brady, quoted in the book, stated that prior to the Bahamas trip, Brady had been in regular contact with Bündchen, FaceTiming her between meetings and discussing their day. "These were normal conversations, and she seemed happy," the source said.

However, the source continued, Bündchen, who reportedly consults astrology, ultimately told Brady, "We're not compatible." The book speculates on the reasons behind her decision, suggesting it may have stemmed from years of feeling she was not Brady's top priority or from his decision to continue playing despite her requests for him to step away. The possibility of spiritual advisors influencing her is also raised, with the author concluding that "in no way, shape or form was this a normal marital breakdown."

Brady returned to Buccaneers training camp on August 22, 2022, following his excused absence. The couple officially announced their divorce on October 28, 2022, after 13 years of marriage.

Reports indicate that Bündchen married her Jiu-jitsu instructor boyfriend, Joaquim Valente, in a private ceremony in Surfside, Florida, in December. They welcomed their first child together in February 2025.

Clyde Christensen, Brady's former quarterback coach for the Buccaneers, described Brady as appearing to be an "empty shell of himself" upon his return to training camp that year. "There was no joy. Everything was hard work," Christensen stated.

Anderson's book also recounts an incident during a July 28 practice, which a Buccaneers staffer suggested was the moment Brady realized his decision to unretire had been a mistake. During practice, center Ryan Jensen suffered a knee injury. Brady reportedly rushed to his friend's side and, observing the severity of the injury, appeared to question his return to the sport, with the staffer noting, "I think that's when he realized he'd made a horrible decision. He didn’t come back and risk adding more troubles to his marriage to get the s–t kicked out of him!"
