Gisele Bündchen Cited Incompatibility as Reason for Tom Brady Divorce, Book Claims

Gisele Bündchen ended her 13-year marriage to Tom Brady in 2022 by stating they were no longer compatible, according to author Lars Anderson in his forthcoming book, "Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness."

A source close to Brady told Anderson that Bündchen, who is interested in astrology, "looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible.’ And just like that, she was done,” Anderson writes.

According to the book, Brady's prolonged football career was a significant strain on their marriage. Anderson claims that Bündchen had been encouraging her then-husband to retire since at least the 2017 Super Bowl. She reportedly approached Brady on the field after the New England Patriots' victory over the Atlanta Falcons and asked, "Would now be the perfect time to retire?"

Later that day, Bündchen allegedly inquired again about retirement, to which Brady is reported to have responded, "Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now."

Around that time, Bündchen also reportedly asked former football player Jay Feely, a teammate of Brady's from the University of Michigan, to try and persuade Brady to retire for the sake of their family. Feely told Anderson that Bündchen was "dead serious" but ultimately advised Brady to "Play as long as you want."

In 2018, after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles, Bündchen is said to have written Brady a note expressing her need for him to be more present at home. The book states she desired more help with their children, more opportunity for sleep, and more time for her own career.

A friend of Brady's, also a former football player, suggested that Bündchen, who was described as a "bigger international star" than Brady, was growing weary of his demanding schedule and lifestyle. The friend noted Brady's early mornings, constant focus on football, and early bedtime, which left little room for a social life that accommodated his wife.

Brady initially announced his retirement in February 2022, but unretired the following month, stating his place was still on the field. Anderson notes that Bündchen was upset by this decision and briefly left for Costa Rica, leaving Brady distraught. The book suggests Brady became noticeably thinner and distracted during training camp that season.

Brady and Bündchen officially announced their divorce on October 28, 2022. In a statement on Instagram, Bündchen said, "We have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always."

Bündchen has since remarried jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente in December 2025 and they have a young son. Brady has been reportedly linked to model Irina Shayk and internet personality Alix Earle.
