An 11-year-old girl who died by suicide had been exposed to 'sexual' and 'suicide' content on the social media platform Discord, an inquest has been told. Mia Christopher, who was found dead on July 20, 2025, shortly after the summer holidays began, had also been subjected to bullying.

Mia's parents believe she was a victim of a bullying campaign, citing a note found after her death that read: ‘Mom I’m being bullied please leave a angel beside my gravestone.’

The inquest in Horsham, West Sussex, heard that Mia had accessed Discord, an online platform with an over-13s policy, and had used it to make repeated comments about her intention to take her own life. The platform allows video and text messaging and provides access to various servers, chat rooms, and voice channels.

Discord bills itself as a safer social media environment for children than other platforms and claims to block adult-themed content. However, Mia was reportedly exposed to inappropriate material on the platform, as well as on TikTok and Snapchat.

Coroner Penelope Schofield indicated that Discord could be named as an 'interested party' in the proceedings, with a representative potentially called to give evidence. Representatives from Mia's school, Sussex Police, and experts from West Sussex County Council’s social services are also expected to provide testimony.

Mia was a pupil at Southway Primary School in Bognor Regis. Her mother paid tribute to her daughter online, describing her as a 'talented, smart, funny girl' who was looking forward to high school. Her sister, Iesha, also shared a heartfelt message, emphasizing the impact of bullying and urging a stand against it, while also calling for a prioritization of childhood mental health.
