Giants Primed for Week 4 Clash with Cardinals as Key Players Return
New York Giants are nearing full strength with Andrew Thomas and Tyler Nubin expected to play, and zero players listed on the injury report.
The New York Giants are poised to be near full strength for their Week 4 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, with no players listed on Friday's injury report. Key contributors, including left tackle Andrew Thomas and safety Tyler Nubin, are expected to be available for Sunday's game.
Thomas, who had been dealing with a groin issue, practiced in a limited capacity on Friday after sitting out the previous two days. His participation indicates a strong likelihood of him playing against the Cardinals. Center John Michael Schmitz was absent from practice due to personal reasons and was temporarily replaced by Bryan Hudson, but he is expected to rejoin the team in time for the game.
In the secondary, both safety Tyler Nubin and cornerback Deonte Banks participated fully in practice for the first time this week, having missed the previous game with calf injuries. Their return further bolsters the Giants' defensive unit.
On the running back front, the Giants have employed a rotating strategy for their backup players. Najee Harris was inactive in Week 1, all three were active in Week 2, and Devin "Motor" Singletary was a healthy scratch in Week 3. Tyrone Tracy Jr. has remained active due to his value as a kick returner, though wide receiver Charlie Jones now also offers that capability.
Tracy, who fumbled in Week 1, has progressed through limited practices to a full participant by Friday. Head coach John Harbaugh explained the weekly decision-making process for the fourth running back spot, stating it is likely based on the game plan, the matchup, and the players' development and current game shape.
"It’s probably based on what you feel like gives you the best chance [to win]," Harbaugh said. "Some of it’s probably the game plan, sure, the matchup. The other part of it’s probably the development of Najee as he’s been here more now and is in better game shape. Of course, Motor is Motor. He’s consistent. And then Trace has done a good job. He’s been practicing really well. All those guys we’re happy with. We like them when they’re on the field."
Additionally, the Giants have signed offensive guard/center Kendrick Green, a 2021 third-round pick, to the practice squad. Green played in one game for the Cleveland Browns last season.
