Giants' Malik Nabers Faces Week 5 Uncertainty Due to Knee Injury
Top receiver misses practice with knee issue, while other key offensive players manage limited participation.
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers is a question mark for the team's Week 5 matchup against the Commanders after missing Wednesday's practice due to a knee injury. Nabers expressed concern, stating, "We’ll see how the next day goes, but through the week I’ll usually be sore. But this one was kind of a little bit more sore. But I always continue to fight through it."
Nabers, who underwent reconstructive knee surgery in September 2025, is coming off his most productive game of the season, with six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown on seven targets against the Cardinals. Despite this performance, he indicated during the game that he desired more involvement in the play-calling. His availability for Sunday's game is now uncertain, not due to a shoulder injury sustained during a contested catch, but because of his knee.
The Giants' injury report also includes tight end Isaiah Likely, who was limited in practice with a knee and groin issue, and running back Cam Skattebo, who participated in a limited capacity with a shoulder injury, wearing a red non-contact jersey.
Nabers acknowledged the ongoing nature of his recovery, noting that his team had prepared him for days with varying levels of soreness. "They kind of told me getting back into this football form … there’s going to be up days, there’s going to be down days, there’s going to be things I have to work through," Nabers said. "Attacking it head-on and just trying to get through this so I can play."
Other players who did not practice include defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (neck), running back Najee Harris (personal reasons), and cornerback Chauncey Golston (concussion). Offensive tackle Andrew Thomas followed his usual routine of not practicing until the end of the week for body maintenance.
In roster news, quarterback Jake Haener was signed to the 53-man roster. This move allows the Giants to carry three quarterbacks, designating Haener or J.J. McCarthy as an emergency third-stringer, enabling another player to fill a core special teams role. Cornerback Deonte Banks was recognized as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his game-clinching interception return for a touchdown. Additionally, center Bryan Hudson was observed working with the first-team offensive line during the media-viewing portion of practice.
