Giants 'Didn't Flinch' After Emotional Injury Blows
Despite losing key players, the Giants have maintained focus and secured wins, demonstrating resilience under coach John Harbaugh.
The New York Giants have faced significant challenges with the season-ending injuries to Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns, but the team has shown remarkable resilience, securing a 2-0 record in their absence. Coach John Harbaugh emphasized a no-excuses approach, stating that the team must remain focused on the task at hand in the National Football League.
"To me, it's like, we've got a game on Sunday. We're going to be out there on Sunday. You better get your act together," Harbaugh said. "It's the National Football League, and the team coming in certainly isn't too worried about your feelings. So, you better be ready to go to battle. Or guys did that. They didn't flinch. So, that was good."
Since Dart's injury, quarterback Jameis Winston has started two games, leading the Giants to victories. While Winston's individual performance has had its ups and downs, the team's record reflects a collective effort to move forward.
"Well, I believe teamwork makes the dream work," Winston said. "When you have losses of significant players in back to back weeks — we had Jaxson then we had Burns — that has the capabilities of bringing the team closer together because we're all we got."
Despite the adversity, the defense has made crucial stops in recent games, indicating its ability to perform without key players. The Giants' current success is built on wins against teams with a combined losing record, including the Cowboys, Titans, and Cardinals.
The Giants are set to face the Washington Commanders next, who will be without wide receiver Stefon Diggs and possibly Terry McLaurin due to hamstring injuries. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will also be returning from an elbow injury and will wear a protective brace.
Guard Jon Runyan Jr. acknowledged that the team can improve its offensive execution to avoid close games. "We can be playing a lot better and cleaner on offense to not put ourselves in that situation. Both of the last two games should not have been close," he told The Post.
The Giants currently lead their division and are navigating a favorable part of their schedule, with upcoming opponents including the Commanders, Saints, and Texans before their Week 8 bye. The team is the betting underdog against the Commanders, continuing a trend from their recent game against the Titans.
