The New York Giants have completed the on-the-road portion of their summer training camp, concluding a demanding 11-day stretch at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Head coach John Harbaugh reported that the team finished this phase of preparation in good condition, avoiding significant injury setbacks.
Harbaugh expressed satisfaction with the team's progress during the intensive camp. "I think we got a lot better," he stated following the final practice session. "We improved tremendously. We’re much further along than we were when we started."
The training camp schedule was rigorous, featuring 10 practices in 11 days. Harbaugh implemented a demanding workload, culminating in a live goal-line period on the final day, which involved the third-team offense and defense. "It was good," Harbaugh said of the live tackling session. "Young guys, goal-line period, live, tackling to the ground. It was enthusiastic and fun, and I liked it."
Despite the overall success in avoiding major injuries, some players experienced minor issues. Starting center John Michael Schmitz sustained a head injury on Friday, and backup Lucas Patrick is managing a knee issue. Bryan Hudson, who has been with the Giants since 2024, stepped in with the starters on the offensive line, and newly signed Brenden Jaimes also practiced at center.
Harbaugh indicated that Schmitz was undergoing tests for a possible concussion. Cornerback Dru Phillips, who left practice Friday with a sprained knee, worked on the side, suggesting his injury is not serious. Cornerback Greg Newsome II also left practice briefly with a non-contact injury but appears to have avoided anything significant.
"The competition is really tough in this league, and every team is doing the same thing," Harbaugh commented on the competitive nature of the NFL. "So you’re in a race every single day to be at least the best you can be. And everybody’s trying to do the same thing in the NFL, so that’s why it’s so tough, but I thought our guys did a good job. I’m happy with where we’re at. It’s just a matter of keeping your head down and staying after it every day."
