Giants Broadcaster Mike Krukow Reveals Health Issues Amid Duane Kuiper's Cancer Diagnosis

San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow has revealed he is experiencing swallowing difficulties, a symptom of his ongoing battle with body myositis, a degenerative muscle disease. This disclosure comes shortly after the news that his longtime broadcasting partner, Duane Kuiper, has been diagnosed with throat cancer.

Kuiper, a beloved voice for the Giants, announced his throat cancer diagnosis on Sunday, sending waves of concern through the baseball community. He and Krukow have formed a nearly four-decade-long broadcasting duo for the Giants.

Krukow had previously announced his own retirement, which is set to take place after the Giants' 2026 season. His decision was largely attributed to his 20-year struggle with body myositis. In a recent interview, Krukow described the progressive nature of his condition.

"Because you lose these muscles, you’re susceptible to falls — and you have to avoid falls at all costs," Krukow told the San Francisco Chronicle. "The more I ride in this chair, the more I atrophy and the less I can walk. Now it’s gotten to the point where it’s hard to do everything and it isn’t going to get any better. I have problems swallowing now, I have to be really careful when I eat. It’s the nature of the game."

While Krukow's swallowing issues are a direct result of his body myositis and not indicative of cancer, the news adds another layer of concern for Giants fans who have long cherished the partnership between Kuiper and Krukow. The pair have been the voices of the Giants for 36 years, becoming an integral part of the team's identity for multiple generations of fans.
