Giants Adopt '1-0' Mentality with New T-Shirts

The New York Giants are reinforcing a singular focus on the present with a new initiative from Head Coach John Harbaugh: distributing T-shirts emblazoned with “1-0.” The shirts serve as a constant reminder to the organization to approach each game as a standalone challenge, winning it before looking ahead.

Harbaugh first introduced the concept, and the shirts were distributed late last week, with many front office and coaching staff members seen wearing them during Wednesday's practice and on Thursday. "1-0. That’s the answer to your question right there. That's the point. That's what we're doing," Harbaugh stated when asked about the shirts.

Defensive tackle D.J. Reader, an 11-year veteran, acknowledged the potential for such slogans to be seen as corny but found them to be a useful reminder. "I always like a new T-shirt. They don’t matter necessarily, but it’s always a good reminder when you see it. You know what it means, we’ve talked about it, and it’s a good reminder of checking you back to reality: ‘Let’s go 1-0 this week,’" Reader said.

The "1-0" approach is not meant to track the team's win-loss record, but rather to instill a mindset of immediate focus. As running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. explained, "One week at a time, one day at a time, one play at a time. You have to continue to win in the moment. There are 14 games left, but we play one game this week. We’re not thinking about two games ahead, three games ahead. The ‘1-0’ is going 1-0 each week."

Reader, a former baseball pitcher, finds the win-loss concept relatable and described it as a "next-pitch mentality." He elaborated, "I can’t tell you who we play three weeks from now. Let’s just try to win that game and then try to win the next game that comes up. Everyone knows the start date of the regular season and end of the regular season, but it’s what in between that matters."

In other team news, safety Jevon Holland was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for his performance in September. He recorded three interceptions, one in each game, along with two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. This marks a significant turnaround for Holland, who had only one takeaway in his first year with the team on a three-year, $45 million contract.

Injury updates indicate that left tackle Andrew Thomas did not practice for the second consecutive day due to a groin issue. Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. (knee), cornerback Deonte Banks (calf), and safety Tyler Nubin (calf) were limited in practice.
