Giants Acquire Quarterback J.J. McCarthy in Trade

The New York Giants have acquired quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday. The trade comes shortly after the Giants' starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart, was ruled out for the remainder of the regular season due to a knee injury sustained in Week 2 against the LA Rams.
While veteran Jameis Winston led the Giants to a victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the team's management moved to bolster their quarterback depth. McCarthy, 23, was the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Vikings. He joins the Giants in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
The Giants had previously considered McCarthy in the 2024 NFL Draft but ultimately selected Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick. McCarthy, who led Michigan to a national championship, has been third on the Vikings' depth chart this season behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.
