Gia Giudice Praises Sister Milania's Mental Health Disclosure
The 'Next Gen NYC' star expresses pride in her sister's openness about her struggles.
Gia Giudice is expressing profound pride in her sister, Milania Giudice, for bravely sharing her experiences with mental health challenges. Milania recently revealed in an Instagram video that she has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, alongside struggles with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD.
"We’ve been going through things, and I just want to say that I’m incredibly proud of my sister Milania," Gia told Page Six's "Virtual Reali-Tea" in an interview promoting her new restaurant, Il Vero in Westwood, New Jersey. She added that her sister is "really amazing."
Milania, 20, stated in her video, "I am not ashamed of any of my mental health disorders and I do work on myself," and noted that she is currently seeking help at a treatment center. She described the past few months as hitting her "like a bus."
This disclosure follows a tumultuous period for Milania, which included an arrest in May for domestic violence after an alleged altercation within her family home. She was subsequently charged with simple assault and required to enroll in anger management classes. In July, Milania also experienced the loss of her childhood best friend, Victoria Zardoya, who died in a fall while exploring historical ruins.
Milania addressed her public challenges in her video, stating, "It’s really hard being in the public light while going through things in life, so I just want to say I’m sorry because I was [raised] on pure respect, love, and I just haven’t been showing the Milania I wanna show."
Earlier in October, Milania posted and later deleted a video of an airport incident involving her mother, Teresa Giudice, and Gia. Police body camera footage from the event captured Teresa speculating about Milania potentially having fentanyl in her system. In the same footage, Milania drew a comparison to Britney Spears and her conservatorship.
Milania's father, Joe Giudice, commented on his daughter's struggles, attributing them to the loss of her friend and the pressures of public life. "Milania is a good girl. She has a big heart, she loves deeply, and she cares enormously about the people in her life," Joe said in a statement to Page Six. "She is also young and going through a very difficult period right now."
Joe Giudice has been legally prohibited from re-entering the United States since completing a prison sentence for fraud charges. Gia has been an advocate for a presidential pardon for her father and believes his return to the U.S. would be healing for the family, especially given Milania's current difficulties.
Last weekend, Gia and Teresa Giudice visited the White House for an event celebrating Italian-American heritage, an occasion where they aimed to discuss options regarding Joe's situation. "It was a very amazing trip," Gia shared. "It was truly inspiring, and I think it just gave me more motivation to want to fight even harder to get my dad back."
Gia emphasized her focus on reuniting the family, regardless of political administration, stating, "Respectfully, I don’t care who is in office if somebody will listen and somebody will maybe grant my father [permission] to come back here in some capacity, whether it’s a visa or whether it’s a pardon." She concluded by asking for prayers for her family's reunification.
