A United States judge has rejected Ghislaine Maxwell's appeal against her sex trafficking conviction, labeling her arguments as "frivolous" and "meritless." Maxwell, 64, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in procuring underage victims for the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. She was found guilty on five felony counts in December 2021.
Maxwell had contended that her constitutional rights were violated in multiple ways during her trial. However, the New York judge unequivocally dismissed the appeal, characterizing it as "lengthy and rambling." The former Epstein associate had cited the release of Epstein-related documents by the U.S. Justice Department earlier this year as support for her claim of wrongful conviction.
The judge ruled that these documents, rather than exculpating Maxwell, actually "incriminate her or reinforce the correctness" of the jury's verdict. The court further cautioned Maxwell against pursuing additional appeals, stating that such actions "would not be taken in good faith."
