Gerry Kelly, a familiar face and voice to generations across Northern Ireland through his work as a journalist and broadcaster, has died at the age of 77. Kelly passed away at his home on Sunday morning. His career spanned four decades, during which he became a well-loved presenter known for his significant character. Deputy First Minister Emma Little Pengelly, speaking on social media, noted Kelly's widespread recognition. "A much-loved presenter with a huge character," she said. "He interviewed so many, many hundreds of people across decades including his famous clip with a young Rory McIlroy and the wash machine!" Colleagues remembered Kelly as a "larger-than-life character" and a "colossus" at UTV. Adrian Logan, a colleague, described Kelly as someone who treated everyone fairly and equally, and that the man viewers saw on screen was the same person off screen, without "airs or graces." Logan added that Kelly's family would be "absolutely heartbroken."
