Geri Halliwell Foretold Christian Horner's Red Bull Exit Amidst Scandal, Book Reveals
The singer offered her husband unwavering support during a 'sex texts' scandal and predicted his eventual departure from the Formula 1 team.
Christian Horner, former CEO and Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, has detailed the crucial support he received from his wife, Geri Halliwell, during a period marked by a 'sex texts' scandal and his subsequent £67 million severance from the Formula 1 team. Horner's exit in July 2025 followed a 20-year tenure and came after an internal power struggle and a perceived decline in the team's performance.
The controversy surrounding Horner emerged in 2024 when intimate text exchanges between him and a female employee were leaked to Formula 1 figures. Horner consistently denied the allegations and was cleared of misconduct in two internal investigations by Red Bull. His eventual dismissal was reportedly unrelated to the texting scandal.
In his autobiography, titled 'Drive,' Horner recounts Halliwell's reaction to the scandal's public disclosure. He described a moment where, after his lawyer explained the situation, Halliwell sensed something was deeply wrong. "She fell silent as she listened," Horner wrote. "We both understood the implications immediately. She looked at me: 'Just tell your truth', she said."
Horner acknowledged her support, stating, "Her resilience was remarkable." He added that Halliwell's belief in him provided the determination to move forward during an immensely difficult period that was also challenging for her. "Without her support, I’m not sure I could have navigated those months in the same way," he remarked.
Halliwell also appeared to anticipate Horner's eventual departure from Red Bull. "Well she's sensitive to all of these things," Horner told BBC Radio 5 Live, referring to his wife's intuition. "She could see the dynamics were changing and she could see that things were different for me. And so yeah, she called it."
Horner's time at Red Bull was marked by significant success, including six constructors' championships and four consecutive world titles for Max Verstappen. However, following the death of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz in 2022, Horner faced increasing challenges, reportedly due to a power struggle involving key figures such as consultant Helmut Marko and Jos Verstappen, Max Verstappen's father. This culminated in Horner's dismissal in July 2025.
