Georgia Woman, 76, Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Ex-Husband and Girlfriend
Authorities allege jealousy over a significantly younger girlfriend fueled the double homicide.
A 76-year-old Georgia woman has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly fatally shooting her ex-husband and his girlfriend in a trailer home in Toombs County. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
Grace Edge is accused of entering the residence and opening fire, killing Wallace Edge, 75, and his girlfriend, Pamela Cook, 40. Cook's mother, Diane Cook, 55, was also present and sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, according to the Toombs County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators believe Grace Edge was motivated by jealousy over her ex-husband's relationship with Pamela Cook, who was 35 years younger than Wallace Edge. "Mr. Edge had started dating Pamela, and it appears that based on information we received that Grace was not accepting of the situation," Toombs County Sheriff Jordan Kight told WTOC.
A 911 call from Diane Cook captured the moments after the shooting. She told the dispatcher that the suspect "come in start shooting" and that there was no argument prior to the gunfire.
Deputies arrived at the scene on McNatt Falls Road in Uvalda at approximately 2:30 p.m. and found both victims deceased. Authorities stated that five shots were fired; four struck Wallace Edge and Pamela Cook, and the fifth hit Diane Cook in the arm.
Rather than fleeing, Grace Edge allegedly drove directly to the Toombs County Sheriff's Office and surrendered. Sheriff Kight confirmed that she arrived at the office shortly after the incident.
Grace and Wallace Edge had been divorced for over a decade, though investigators have received unconfirmed reports of an on-again, off-again relationship. The couple had a history of domestic disputes, with deputies reportedly called to their shared home at least a dozen times before their divorce. Neither Grace nor Wallace Edge had made arrests in relation to these past calls, according to authorities.
The killings have been described as a shock to the close-knit community of Toombs County. Grace Edge faces seven charges, including two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, and three counts of aggravated assault. She is currently being held at the Toombs County Detention Center, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation.
