Prosecutors in Georgia have filed a motion to revoke the bond of Maris Nichols, a 25-year-old teacher accused of sexually abusing six teenagers. The state alleges Nichols violated her house arrest 85 times over a 27-day period.
Nichols was initially arrested on May 6 on charges of improper sexual activity by an employee for an alleged sexual encounter with a student from Alexander High School. A second arrest followed later that month, with additional charges related to the alleged abuse of five other teenagers.
She was released on a $74,000 bond but is now facing a renewed push for detention as prosecutors detail numerous alleged violations of her release conditions. According to an arrest warrant, Nichols faces eight counts of improper sexual contact by an employee or agent/foster parent, four counts of grooming a minor for a sexual offense, two counts of child molestation, and tampering with evidence.
Assistant District Attorney Ra Williams outlined 38 curfew violations and 47 instances where Nichols allegedly breached her bond agreement. Prosecutors claim she made unauthorized travel to public locations frequented by children, such as retail stores and fast-food restaurants, despite being prohibited from contact with minors.
Nichols' release conditions stipulated that she could only leave her home for religious services, attorney visits, medical appointments, and court appearances. She was also ordered to refrain from internet access, including social media, and to undergo a psychosexual evaluation. Authorities placed an electronic monitoring device on her, which reportedly produced the compliance report detailing the 85 violations.
Prosecutors argue that Nichols poses a significant threat to the community, with concerns about witness intimidation and the risk of re-offense. They are requesting that her bond be revoked, compelling her to await trial in the Douglas County Jail.
A hearing on the state's motion to revoke bond has been scheduled. Nichols' attorneys have not yet filed a response to the motion.
Court documents detail alleged instances of abuse, including an encounter at a golf club and an incident reportedly captured on video while Nichols wore a "Jesus Loves You" sweater. Prosecutors also allege that Nichols sent explicit text messages and videos to students, some under the age of 16, and described her sexual desires. The documents suggest that Nichols had an OnlyFans account that her students discovered and allegedly used to blackmail her for better grades.
Nichols is also accused of tampering with evidence for allegedly instructing a student to delete text messages and lie about suspected molestation.
The Douglas County School System stated it was "deeply troubled" by the allegations and has launched an internal investigation, emphasizing that student safety is the district's highest priority and that the alleged behavior violates professional standards.
