A Georgia mother successfully defended her children from an alleged kidnapping attempt at a Marietta gas station last week, utilizing a gas pump as a defensive tool. The encounter was captured on surveillance video, showing the frantic moments before the suspect was apprehended by police.

The incident occurred around midnight at a Shell station when a man, identified as 30-year-old Jerahn Tucker, approached the family's vehicle. According to Marietta Police Public Information Officer Charles McPhilamy, Tucker initially spoke with the woman before the situation escalated. Tucker then allegedly began to charge at the car, attempting to open the doors and pull a child from the back seat.

A warrant cited by FOX 5 Atlanta indicates the mother told investigators that Tucker claimed to have a gun before becoming aggressive. The surveillance footage shows one of the children exiting the vehicle and running around it as Tucker pursued. At one point, Tucker opened the rear passenger door while another child remained inside.

The mother then grabbed the gas pump hose, using it to keep Tucker away from her children. Two bystanders intervened and assisted the mother until police were called.

Surveillance video shows a mother using a gas pump hose to fend off a man near her family's vehicle at a Georgia gas station.

Tucker eventually fled the scene in his vehicle but was stopped by officers a short distance away and taken into custody. He is currently being held in the Cobb County Jail on charges including kidnapping and simple assault. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the alleged attack.

McPhilamy commended the actions of the mother and the bystanders, stating their ability to remain calm and intervene allowed for the suspect's apprehension and accountability.
