A Georgia mother has been arrested and accused of handing her teenage daughter a golf club to strike another girl during a violent altercation at a bus stop. Curtisia Heath, 36, is facing an aggravated assault charge, according to WSB-TV.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon in Newnan, Georgia, where police allege Heath armed her 16-year-old daughter with the golf club. The daughter then allegedly struck the 14-year-old victim, Keira Harps, in the head, causing a fractured skull, neck swelling, and a wound that required staples. Video obtained by WSB-TV reportedly shows several teenagers involved in a physical fight before Heath entered the frame with the golf club and passed it to her daughter.
Harps' mother, Syrite Harps, told KPTV News that she believed the attackers intended to kill her daughter. "She was laid on the ground. She was passed out, couldn’t get no response from her. She wasn’t moving. I thought she was dead," she said.
Heath's mother, Cherry Hart, presented a different account, stating that the video showed her daughter attempting to break up the fight and protect her children.
Heath's two daughters, aged 15 and 16, have also been taken into custody and booked into a youth detention center on charges of aggravated assault. Police described the golf club used in the assault as a "deadly weapon."
According to reports, the brawl began after a verbal exchange near the bus stop, escalating from online bullying. Keira's older sister, Jasmine Osirio, stated that Heath's daughters had been harassing Keira online and specifically targeted her clothing choice for her school's spirit week. Osirio attempted to mediate the situation with Heath, but claims the conversation quickly deteriorated.
Authorities stated that Heath's 15-year-old daughter also allegedly used the golf club to strike a second juvenile victim, who reportedly did not sustain injuries. Osirio told KPTV that she was also hit with the golf club during the altercation.
Keira Harps is reportedly making progress in the hospital and is expected to fully recover, with a potential release as early as Tuesday. Syrite Harps vowed to seek justice for her daughter.
