Georgia Mayor, 23, Ousted Amid Sexting and Spending Scandals

Former Stockbridge, Georgia Mayor Jayden Williams, who was removed from office earlier this month, said he did not expect to be ousted. Williams, 23, was the youngest mayor in the city's history and had served for less than a year.

His tenure was cut short due to allegations involving his spending of city funds and a relationship with an 18-year-old high school student. Williams admitted to WSB-TV that the relationship was inappropriate, stating, "I would have to somewhat agree to that." He also acknowledged exchanging nude photos, telling the outlet, "That’s not abnormal for somebody my age."

According to NBC News, a police report indicated that Williams did not commit any criminal violations because the student was considered an adult under Georgia law. However, Williams did admit to spending some city funds on personal purchases. He clarified that these were from his reallocated $5,000 annual mayoral budget, not the city's general fund, and that he reimbursed the amount immediately. He noted that the city purchasing card looked similar to his personal card and he later replaced them to avoid future confusion.

Williams was impeached by the Stockbridge City Council after taking office in January. He had previously campaigned for the position while still attending Clark Atlanta University.
