Andrew Paul Ferrarone, 33, of Gwinnett County, Georgia, died on July 15 from injuries sustained in a rock climbing accident in Big Bear, California, where he was a resident. Ferrarone, known to friends as Andy, was rock climbing on July 12 when the accident occurred. His wife, Nina, was just over eight weeks pregnant at the time of his death.

Ferrarone worked as a software engineer for Sierra Space Agency and previously was employed at a startup called Index. His LinkedIn profile indicates he lived in San Diego.

A GoFundMe has been established to assist Nina with medical bills and costs associated with raising their child. "As a flight attendant, Nina took time off work when she learned she was expecting, and now she must navigate rent, a mountain of medical bills, and the costs of welcoming a child without Andy by her side," the fundraising page states. As of four days after its creation, the campaign had raised over $35,000 of its $65,000 goal.

Family members posted on Threads mourning the loss, noting Caroline Ferrarone, Andrew's sister, lost her brother. Funeral and memorial services are planned for San Diego and Peachtree, Georgia.
