Georgia Man Charged in Attack on Atlanta ICE Building

A 31-year-old Georgia man has been charged with attempted arson of a federal building and depredation of government property after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in downtown Atlanta.

Inique Hinton, of Douglasville, Georgia, was identified by authorities. Security cameras captured Hinton igniting an item and throwing it toward the multistory brick building on Tuesday night, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. The device struck a fence and caused flames to spread.

Investigators found burned cloth, lighter fluid, a glass bottle, and a lighter at the scene. Hinton was arrested peacefully at a suburban Atlanta home.

U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg described the law enforcement response as “exemplary” and stated the conduct would be prosecuted with “extreme severity” to send a message.

Hertzberg indicated he was unaware of any prior criminal convictions for Hinton. If convicted, Hinton faces up to 20 years in federal prison for the arson charge and up to 10 years for the depredation charge.

The building houses offices for ICE and an immigration court and is surrounded by a metal fence.
