Georgia Man Arrested for Faking Emergency to Skip Red Lobster Bill
Authorities say Abdul Rasheed called 911 to report a non-existent medical issue, leading to his arrest for theft of services.
A Georgia man has been arrested for allegedly faking a medical emergency to avoid paying a $63 tab at a Red Lobster restaurant. Abdul Rasheed, 26, was taken into custody by Douglasville police on September 24.
According to the police report, Rasheed called 911 and claimed to be experiencing a medical emergency at the restaurant. Responders arrived to find Rasheed unharmed and not suffering from any condition requiring medical attention. Authorities stated that Rasheed made the call with the intention of evading payment for his meal.
Rasheed has been charged with theft of services and unlawful conduct during a 911 call. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail on September 25. Jail records indicate he is being held on a $1,500 bond for the theft charge and a $3,000 bond for the unlawful conduct charge.
It is unclear if Rasheed has legal representation at this time. A spokesperson for Red Lobster and the Douglas County Sheriff's office have not yet commented on the incident.
