Stacey Humphreys, a Georgia death row inmate convicted of murdering two women in 2003, is scheduled for execution on September 16. The execution is slated to take place at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

Nearly 23 years after the murders of Cynthia Williams, 33, and Lori Brown, 21, Humphreys' case has reached its execution date. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles had previously suspended his December 2025 execution due to legal conflicts of interest within the parole board.

Humphreys' defense team made a final attempt to secure a new trial during an appeal hearing on Thursday. Attorney Jill Benton argued that a juror from Humphreys’ 2007 trial engaged in misconduct by allegedly hiding bias and harassing other jurors. Prosecutor Sabrina Graham dismissed these claims as an attempt at character assassination, arguing that the defense should have brought such evidence forward much earlier.

The judge presiding over the appeal hearing indicated a swift decision would be made.

Humphreys was sentenced to death for the 2003 killings of Williams and Brown. He cornered the women at their company’s sales office in Cobb County, near Atlanta, and forced them to surrender their bank PIN numbers before shooting them. The Georgia Office of the Attorney General noted that Williams had a prominent ligature mark from her own underwear, which Humphreys had used to tie around her neck. After stealing thousands of dollars from their bank accounts, Humphreys fled and was apprehended following a high-speed chase in Wisconsin.

Upon his capture, Humphreys claimed to not remember the murders but admitted he fled because he knew he had committed the crimes.

Humphreys has requested a last meal that includes barbecue beef brisket, pork ribs, a bacon double cheeseburger, French fries, coleslaw, cornbread, buffalo wings, a meat lover’s pan pizza, and vanilla ice cream, to be accompanied by two lemon-lime sodas.

He is the only individual currently scheduled for execution in Georgia this year.
