Students at Georgetown University are facing criticism for allegedly planning a Charlie Kirk lookalike contest on the first anniversary of his assassination. The event was reportedly promoted on Fizz, an anonymous social media platform used by university affiliates, with the post receiving over 2,200 upvotes.

September 10, 2026, marks one year since Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot. The anonymous post advertising the contest read, "Charlie Kirk lookalike contest. September 10th 2026. Pull up to Copley Lawn to speak the truth while the cost is high." Copley Lawn is located outside Georgetown's Healy Hall.

Conservative groups have expressed outrage at the event, calling it a disrespectful stunt. The Georgetown chapter of Turning Point USA condemned the posts, with its president, Heidi Sui, stating, "The TPUSA Chapter at Georgetown strongly condemns any events that aim to disrespect Charlie Kirk and the upcoming memorial ceremony at UVU." She added, "To the millions of us who listened to his debates, Charlie never celebrated violence. But some liberal students do. And they are doing it right here — in our nation’s capital of all places."

Sui further noted, "There is a difference between disagreeing with someone’s politics and celebrating their death." The student group set up a table on campus with American flags and signs in response to the posts.

Further posts on Fizz reportedly included suggestions for a Georgetown choral group to sing an AI-generated song released after Kirk's assassination and a mock "Kirkiversary" event relocating to a student's dorm room with the prize of an interview on Fox News.

A Georgetown University spokesperson stated that the university is not aware of any official student organization hosting the event. The spokesperson condemned the rhetoric, saying, "While Georgetown’s policies give latitude for the free expression of ideas and opinions, making light of a victim of violence is counter to our values and deeply disappointing." The university is monitoring the situation and reminded students of campus policies regarding speech and conduct.
