Former Vanity Fair columnist George Wayne has detailed a memorable 1992 stay at the Chateau Marmont, recounting encounters with socialite Ivana Trump and stylist Kelly Cutrone in a recent piece for Hampton Sheet Magazine. Wayne's recollections center on Suite 56 of the iconic Los Angeles hotel.
During his stay, Wayne was present for a charity fashion show featuring Ivana Trump, described by Wayne as his "Godmama." The event, organized by French designer Thierry Mugler, aimed to benefit the AIDS Project Los Angeles. At the hotel, Wayne observed socialite Larissa Jarzombek, whom he identified from her distinctive style.
Wayne also recalled an interaction where Jarzombek, apparently unaware of the hotel's lack of a liquor license, requested a Bloody Mary. When informed the hotel did not serve alcohol, she then asked for wine, according to Wayne's account.
Evenings were spent at the Los Angeles restaurant Bikini, which food critic Ruth Reichl described in 1992 as an establishment with an unconventional ambiance and unique cuisine, noting that diners would likely have a strong reaction to it. Wayne also shared conversations with Peggy Orr, the West Coast Editor of Allure magazine at the time. Orr reportedly offered Wayne Hollywood gossip, including alleged details about Mimi Rogers' divorce from Tom Cruise and updates on the marital status of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.
Wayne's account, published in Hampton Sheet Magazine, offers a glimpse into the social scene and celebrity interactions of the early 1990s in Hollywood.
