George Santos Predicts GOP Midterm Struggles, Criticizes Party Leadership
The expelled congressman shared his frank assessment of the Republican party's electoral prospects and internal dynamics.
Expelled House Republican George Santos has offered a stark prognosis for the Republican party's performance in the upcoming midterm elections, suggesting significant challenges lie ahead despite his self-proclaimed departure from politics. In comments to the Daily Mail, Santos shared candid observations about the party's current state and leadership.
Santos indicated that the Republican party is experiencing a significant level of internal concern, which he described as "panic." He suggested that this anxiety is palpable among the party's candidates and leadership.
"It looks like there's real issues for Speaker Johnson, even if he does retain the House, to remain with the gavel," Santos stated, referencing House Speaker Mike Johnson. He also pointed to other prominent figures, noting, "It looks like [Representative] Jim Jordan is trying to make a move there." These remarks suggest internal jockeying for power and potential instability within the party's top ranks.
The former congressman also claimed that two unnamed Republican candidates have expressed a desire to leave politics and seek opportunities in show business, even allegedly asking for his assistance. "Two candidates begged me to help them break into showbusiness," Santos reportedly said, implying a broader disillusionment with the political landscape among some party members.
Santos further warned that the party faces an uphill battle in traditionally Republican strongholds. "I warned that Republicans face an uphill battle even in traditionally red turf like Texas, Florida and Ohio, where Democrats are proving competitive," he stated. This suggests that the party may not be as secure in its base as previously assumed.
Santos also shared his dissatisfaction with the relationship between former President Donald Trump and an individual named Mamdani, stating his distaste for their "chummy" alliance. The specifics of this relationship and Santos's objections were not elaborated upon.
Santos, who was expelled from the House of Representatives in December 2023, has been active in other public ventures, including participating in the latest season of the reality television show "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test."
