George Clooney Reflects on Marriage to Amal, Calls Presley Gerber's Death 'Devastating'
The actor spoke about his wife and the tragic passing of Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford's son at a charity event.
George Clooney expressed his deep appreciation for his wife, Amal Clooney, describing himself as "very lucky" to have found her. The actor made these remarks while attending The Albies, hosted by The Clooney Foundation for Justice at London's Natural History Museum on Friday.
Celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary on September 27, Clooney also broke his silence on the "devastating death" of Presley Gerber, the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, who passed away on September 20. Presley Gerber died at the age of 27 from a suspected drug overdose at a sober-living facility in Santa Monica, California.
Speaking to People, Clooney attributed the success of his marriage to selecting the right partner. "We feel very lucky, very happy to have found each other," he said. Amal Clooney added, "If you choose the most incredible person, then it all goes well from there."
The couple, who met in 2013 and married a year later, are parents to nine-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.
Clooney, a close family friend and former business partner of Rande Gerber in Casamigos Tequila, described Presley's death as one of the most devastating events for their families. "It's the worst thing that could ever happen with family," he told Entertainment Tonight. He declined to discuss plans for honoring Presley's legacy, stating, "I don't think we're even in the position to be able to talk about it."
Presley Gerber, who had been open about his struggles with drugs, panic attacks, and mental health on social media, was found in a bedroom at the rehabilitation house on September 20, according to sources close to the investigation cited by TMZ. He had reportedly checked into the facility the night before his death.
An automated voice on the 911 dispatch call from the rehab facility mentioned "cardiac arrest" followed by "overdose." The situation reportedly escalated rapidly within minutes, with the call being upgraded from cardiac arrest to an overdose and then further upgraded shortly after.
Sources indicated that fentanyl has not been a primary focus of the investigation, but the final cause of death awaits the Medical Examiner's toxicology report. Presley was cremated, and his ashes are reportedly being kept at his parents' home.
Following Presley's death, George and Amal Clooney stayed close to support the Gerber family through their grief, assisting with arrangements and providing comfort. The family is reportedly planning an intimate memorial service in Malibu to honor Presley's love for the beach and surfing.
