Geno Smith's Audibles Shine in Jets' Victory, While Fitzpatrick Fined
Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich commends quarterback Geno Smith's game-winning audible, as safety Minkah Fitzpatrick faces a league fine.

Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich highlighted quarterback Geno Smith's decisive audible on a third-and-9 play that led to the game-winning touchdown run by Braelon Allen. Smith's ability to recognize the defensive coverage and switch to a run play allowed Allen to score from 22 yards out, securing the victory.
"Geno got to the line of scrimmage and saw something that made him think to check to the run. He checked to the perfect play," Reich stated. "That’s elite instinct and execution by him and the offense. There’s the science behind it — what are they playing, what’s the structure — and then it’s like, ‘This doesn’t feel right, I’m gonna check to this, what should I check to,’ and boom. That was creative thinking by Geno."
Despite an overall performance where Smith completed 17 of 30 passes for 182 yards with one touchdown and one fumble, Reich emphasized the crucial decision-making in the game's final moments. The Jets trailed by two points when the offensive unit faced the critical third-down situation.
In other team news, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick has been fined an undisclosed amount by the league for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Browns receiver KC Concepcion, an incident that led to Concepcion being removed from the game with a head injury. Fitzpatrick intends to appeal the fine, expressing his belief that the play was a "bang-bang play."
"In my opinion, it was a football play, a ‘bang-bang play,’ as their coach put it," Fitzpatrick said. "When you look at the league rules, they say you can’t hit a defenseless player. I don’t really know what that means, but I understand why I got the penalty. … In my opinion, if a receiver has the ball you have every right to hit him as long as you’re not hitting him in the head … but league rules say you can’t hit him if he doesn’t have a chance to defend himself."
Fitzpatrick added, "Obviously you don’t like to see anybody get hurt. I’m happy to see that [Concepcion is] back practicing this week."
Meanwhile, the Jets' injury report shows tight end Kenyon Sadiq (concussion) was limited in practice. Safety Dane Belton (knee) and rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle) were also limited. Running back Breece Hall did not practice due to a quad injury but worked on a side field with trainers.
