Gen Z Candidate Aims to Flip Iowa House Seat, Inspire Conservative Youth
Twenty-two-year-old Dillon Fillion, a Domino's delivery driver, is running for the Iowa House with a platform focused on tax cuts, police funding, and parental rights.
At 22 years old, Dillon Fillion is challenging the status quo in Iowa politics, running for a seat in the state House of Representatives. Believed to be the youngest candidate ever to seek office in Scott County, Fillion aims to make history by inspiring his generation, Gen Z, to embrace conservative principles and increase voter turnout.
Fillion, who is pursuing a criminal justice degree at Scott Community College, is currently working as a Domino's delivery driver while campaigning, a commitment he describes as juggling "two full-time jobs." He is challenging incumbent Democratic state Representative Daniel Gosa for Iowa's 81st House District.
"I think people are very excited that a young person is running because they see a lot of these old people running for office, no offense to them, but people wanna see some fresh new faces and I think it’s time for my generation to step up," Fillion told Fox News Digital.
His political awakening began in 2019, he said, after observing what he perceived as unfounded accusations against then-President Donald Trump. This led him down a path of researching and ultimately becoming involved in conservative politics.
Fillion's campaign platform centers on several key issues, including a significant reduction in property taxes. His campaign website states that if complete elimination is not immediately achievable, he will work to lower them as much as possible. "I wanna keep Iowa number one in affordability," he said.
Public safety and education are also top priorities. Fillion plans to introduce a constitutional amendment for the "Back the Blue Act" to support law enforcement and advocates for empowering parents as the primary decision-makers in their children's education, asserting that "parents should be the forefront of your kids’ education, not the government."
Fillion credits figures like Charlie Kirk with helping young men find purpose and embrace conservative values. "The men in my generation are really conservative. They admire conservative principles," Fillion stated. "I do think my generation is going in the right direction in regard to conservatism. It’s just, I think my generation needs to turn out more in our elections."
His campaign slogan, "Keep Iowa Great!," reflects his ambition to make Iowa an ideal place to live, work, and raise a family. Fillion is supported by endorsements from figures such as Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., and Iowa House Majority Leader Bobby Kaufmann.
Fillion expressed confidence in his ability to win the election, stating, "I wouldn’t be in this race if I didn’t think I could win it." He believes his opponent does not adequately represent the interests of the district.
Fillion's campaign aims to inject optimism into the political landscape and demonstrate that Gen Z is actively seeking to improve the country. "I just want our country to know that there are people in my generation that are doing everything they can to try and save this country," he said.
