GB News presenter Patrick Christys and his heavily pregnant wife, fellow presenter Emily Carver, have been forced to leave their home due to death threats from human traffickers. The Metropolitan Police issued a warning that intelligence services believed their lives were at risk following Christys's journalistic work exposing people smuggling gangs in Calais, France.
Christys recounted that he and his wife were told to pack their belongings and seek shelter with friends in the early hours of the morning. The police informed them that members of organized immigration crime groups were actively seeking to cause them significant harm as a result of his reporting.
Christys began his investigation into people smugglers in July of the previous year, discovering that they advertised their services on platforms like TikTok and communicated logistics via WhatsApp. He stated that his attempts to alert authorities yielded no apparent action, prompting him and a camera crew to confront smugglers directly in Calais. During these confrontations, Christys reported receiving death threats.
Upon returning to London, Christys received a formal "threat to life" notice from the police, which detailed the risk posed by organized immigration crime groups. Officers instructed him to leave his flat immediately, avoid driving his car due to potential tampering, and use a black cab to reach a safe location.
The couple were later fitted with a panic alarm, but Christys expressed alarm when he learned that it had been disconnected by police due to a lack of resources without their prior knowledge. He also recounted an incident where he believes he was confronted on a London street by one of the traffickers he had exposed in Calais.
Christys stated that he and his wife have been under round-the-clock security measures since the threats began. He criticized the authorities' efforts to tackle the gangs, asserting that they operate with impunity and generate substantial profits. Christys affirmed his intention to continue his investigative journalism, stating that the threats have not intimidated him and he plans to return to northern France.
The Metropolitan Police declined to comment on the specifics of the case. The intelligence services have not withdrawn their warning, and the couple remains unaware of the exact identity of those who threatened them or the current level of risk.
