Gayle King, anchor of “CBS Mornings,” expressed surprise when informed that the sole holdout juror in the recent Lindsay Clancy murder trial was a Black man. The revelation came during an interview with Paula Devlin, a juror on the 12-person panel.
During the discussion of the jury's composition, Devlin stated that 11 members of the panel were white, and one was a person of color. When King inquired about the juror's race and gender, Devlin confirmed it was a Black man. King, visibly taken aback, responded, “Woah, I have to sit with that for just a second,” before continuing the interview.
The Clancy trial did not reach a unanimous verdict, with one juror dissenting. Devlin indicated that this holdout juror believed the act was not first-degree murder, potentially influenced by a video interview with Clancy.
