California Governor Gavin Newsom has stated he would not run for president in 2028 if Vice President Kamala Harris decides to enter the race.
Newsom revealed this decision in a recent interview with CNN's Jake Tapper. "I wouldn't run if she ran," Newsom said, explaining that such a scenario would lead to "mutually assured destruction" and that he would not "waste anyone's time."
The governor previously indicated that his decision to run for president would depend on the agreement of his four children, who range in age from 10 to 17. He told PBS that two of his children are supportive of a presidential run, while the other two are currently opposed.
Recent reports have also indicated that federal investigators are examining the finances of Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The investigations reportedly include probes into Siebel Newsom's taxes and records related to the governor's travel, much of which has been funded by the nonprofit California Protocol Foundation. Newsom has dismissed these investigations as a political attack.
