Gavin Newsom Responds to Nicki Minaj's Potential White House Press Secretary Role

California Governor Gavin Newsom has offered a succinct response to the notion of rapper Nicki Minaj serving as White House press secretary: "We can only pray." His comment comes after former President Donald Trump and his allies, including White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, humorously suggested Minaj for the role.

Cheung posted a video clip on social media of himself and Minaj aboard Air Force One en route to a rally in Michigan. In the clip, he quipped, "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary! @NICKIMINAJ." Minaj responded to the post with an American flag emoji and a face with sweat emoji, appearing noncommittal.

During their conversation, Minaj expressed support for Trump, praising his business acumen and international policy. She remarked on his ability to manage finances, stating, "If he can do that himself, with his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country." Minaj also lauded Trump's work ethic, claiming he "outworks people who are half his age."

Minaj and Newsom have had previous public exchanges. In January, Minaj posted on X, formerly Twitter, suggesting Newsom's political ambitions were unlikely to succeed. She referred to him with a nickname and advised him to "Get on the nearest jet ski & let that beautiful hair blow in the wind."

The discussions around Minaj as press secretary emerged following the recent departure of Katie Zacharia from the position. Trump has recently incorporated celebrity endorsements into his campaign events, with figures such as boxers Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, and country artist Jason Aldean also appearing with him.
