Gary Neville's New Podcast Launches Amidst Jibes Between Jamie Carragher and Mark Goldbridge
An awkward start to the Overlap Daily saw the podcast hosts trade personal insults just moments into the show's debut.
Gary Neville's expansion of his Overlap podcast empire, the Overlap Daily, began with an exchange of insults between pundit Jamie Carragher and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge.
Carragher, a Liverpool legend, initiated the verbal sparring by questioning Goldbridge's authenticity and loyalty, referencing claims that he is a Nottingham Forest supporter despite his online persona as a Manchester United fan. "Are you going to be yourself on the show? I keep reading that you've sold out," Carragher quipped. He also referred to Goldbridge by his real name, Brent, and questioned his past as a police officer, calling him a "fraud."
Goldbridge retaliated by criticizing Carragher's punditry career and comparing it to his playing days. He also brought up Carragher's support for Everton in his youth before becoming a legend at their rivals, Liverpool.
The public exchange occurred during the launch of the Overlap Daily, an expansion of Neville's podcast network. In a significant business move earlier this year, Neville's The Overlap, majority-owned by Global, reportedly paid a seven-figure sum for Goldbridge's YouTube channels, The United Stand and That's Football.
As part of this deal, The United Stand has been extended to include "Stick to United," featuring former players and journalists, with Goldbridge and Wayne Rooney at the helm. Goldbridge's That's Football was rebranded as Overlap Daily, where he continues to host watchalongs. He is also set to host the Friday edition of Overlap Daily, with Carragher, Joe Hart, and Peter Schmeichel expected as regular co-hosts.
