Garvaghy Road Residents Lose Bid to Challenge Drumcree Parade Decision

Residents of Garvaghy Road have been unsuccessful in their attempt to challenge the Parades Commission's decision allowing the Drumcree parade to proceed down the predominantly nationalist road, the Court of Appeal has ruled. The judges stated that their decision was limited to the legality of the commission's decision and did not address whether the march itself should occur.

Lady Chief Justice Dame Siobhan Keegan noted that the ruling was made prior to the secretary of state's ban on the parade on Friday. The residents had contended that the commission's decision was flawed due to its assessment of the potential for public disorder. However, the court dismissed their appeal against the determination.
