Garrett Crochet Activated for Red Sox AL Wild-Card Series Against Yankees

Garrett Crochet has been activated and is on the Red Sox roster for their American League Wild-Card series against the Yankees. The pitcher returns after a five-month layoff due to a shoulder injury.

Crochet last pitched on April 25 against the Orioles, where he pitched six innings, allowing three hits and no runs in a 17-1 victory. He has spent the past five months rehabbing a left lat strain, a recovery that took longer than initially expected.

"It was obviously a lot longer than I expected. Been busting my tail just to kind of give myself a fighting chance, and I feel like I did that," Crochet said prior to the playoffs. "Now it’s just waiting for the roster to come out. I hope that I’m able to contribute, but regardless, I’m here, and I think that we have put ourselves in a great position to walk away from the Series with a win."

In the 2025 Wild-Card series against the Yankees, Crochet started Game 1, pitching 7 ⅔ innings and allowing four hits with 11 strikeouts in a 3-1 Red Sox win.

This year, Crochet may be utilized as a reliever as he regains his previous form. He has prior experience as a reliever, both in college and early in his career with the White Sox, where he posted a 2.71 ERA over his first 72 appearances. Crochet was converted to a starting pitcher in 2024.

The Red Sox will travel to the Bronx for Game 1 of the series, scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
