A group of five individuals has been sentenced for kidnapping and false imprisonment after a victim escaped captivity by leaping from a first-floor window and subsequently encountering law enforcement. The incident occurred in July of the previous year when the victim was lured to an address in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.
For several hours, the victim endured abuse and threats from Brad'Lee Ranyard, Nathan Gladwell, Jackson Nicholson, Craig Ranyard, and Danielle Thompson. The captors reportedly assaulted, threatened, and tormented the victim, even filming the abuse. The following day, the victim was forced into a vehicle and taken to another property in Lincoln.
On the second day of his captivity, the victim saw an opportunity to escape. CCTV footage captured the moment the victim climbed out of a window, landed in a tree, and then fled onto the pavement. The victim ran into the street and flagged down a passing Lincolnshire Police vehicle.
PC Kingston, who was driving the patrol car, recognized the victim was in distress and provided immediate assistance. Shortly after the victim's escape, CCTV recorded Brad'Lee Ranyard and Jackson Nicholson leaving the property. Police tracked their vehicle, and armed officers stopped it, leading to their arrest at gunpoint.
Detectives later located and arrested the remaining individuals, Nathan Gladwell, Craig Ranyard, and Danielle Thompson, at a separate property. The five were subsequently charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment.
At Lincoln Crown Court on August 28, Brad'Lee Ranyard, 20, was sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of kidnap and pleading guilty to false imprisonment. Jackson Nicholson, 25, received a nine-year sentence for kidnap and false imprisonment. Craig Ranyard, 42, was sentenced to five years and three months for false imprisonment. Danielle Thompson, 38, received four years and nine months for false imprisonment, and Nathan Gladwell, 36, was sentenced to three years and seven months for false imprisonment.
All five individuals were also issued with indefinite restraining orders prohibiting contact with the victim and his family. Detective Constable Liam Henderson, who led the investigation, commended the victim's courage and highlighted the swift response of the officers involved. He emphasized the importance of police intervention in ensuring the victim's safety and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
