A man held captive by a gang managed to escape by leaping from a first-floor window and then chanced upon a police patrol car. The incident, which occurred in July of last year, resulted in the arrest and subsequent sentencing of five individuals for kidnapping and false imprisonment.
The victim was lured to an address in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, and subsequently held against his will. During his captivity, he was subjected to abuse and filmed by his captors. The following day, he was forced into a vehicle and taken to another property in Lincoln.
At approximately 11:23 a.m., the victim saw an opportunity to escape. CCTV footage captured him climbing out of a window, landing in a tree, and then running onto the street. Shortly after, a marked Lincolnshire Police vehicle entered the street, and the victim ran towards it, flagging down the officers.
PC Kingston, who was driving the police vehicle, recognized the victim's distress and took him to a place of safety. Following the victim's account, police tracked the vehicle used by two of the perpetrators. Armed officers stopped the Isuzu pickup truck on Washingborough Road at 12:07 p.m., arresting Brad'Lee Ranyard, 20, and Jackson Nicholson, 25, at gunpoint.
Detectives later located and arrested three other individuals involved: Nathan Gladwell, 36, Craig Ranyard, 42, and Danielle Thompson, 38, at a property in Market Rasen. The group was charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment.
On August 28, the five appeared at Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing. Brad'Lee Ranyard and Jackson Nicholson received nine-year prison sentences after being convicted of kidnap and pleading guilty to false imprisonment. Craig Ranyard was sentenced to five years and three months for false imprisonment. Danielle Thompson received four years and nine months for false imprisonment, and Nathan Gladwell was sentenced to three years and seven months for false imprisonment.
All five individuals were also made subject to an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with the victim and his family. Detective Constable Liam Henderson, who led the investigation, praised the victim's courage and the officers' swift actions in ensuring the victim's safety and bringing the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized that the incident highlights the commitment of law enforcement to protecting vulnerable individuals.
